Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) visited the UPS Customer Service Center in Falconer, New York to take a look at several new “green” trucks operated out of the Chautauqua County facility.  UPS recently became the first shipping company in the nation to participate the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leaders program. 

“UPS obviously recognizes the important role each of us plays in protecting our environment and continues to demonstrate their leadership as a good community partner,” said Congressman Higgins.   “From “green” trucks to a paperless tracking system, UPS has taken the initiative to set their own high standards for providing clean and efficient services.”   

The EPA Climate Leaders program is an industry/government partnership in which companies commit to reducing their impact on the global environment by completing a corporate-wide inventory of greenhouse gas emissions, setting aggressive reduction goals and annually reporting their progress to the EPA. 

UPS District Congressional Coordinator Mike Tomani said, “At UPS we have a Congressional Awareness Program.  This program allows for us to keep all our members of Congress informed, with an understanding of how UPS operates.  We are very please to have the opportunity to have the Congressman visit with us.”

Over the last year UPS added 18 “green” trucks to the Falconer-based fleet.  UPS has the largest “green” fleet in the industry with more than 1,700 alternative fuel trucks. 

UPS employs 358,000 people in the US including 52 at the Falconer facility.  The UPS team based in Falconer delivers approximately 5,000 packages to 2,000 locations a day and has another 283 daily pick-ups.  UPS delivered approximately 4 billion packages worldwide in 2007.
