Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) joined local law enforcement agencies, community organizations and lawmakers in Western New York to kick-off the 25th Anniversary of National Night Out.
“National Night Out provides an annual reminder that if we want to keep our neighborhoods and families safe we must work together, watch out for each other and partner with law enforcement to send a clear message that crime is not welcome on our streets,” said Congressman Higgins.
National Night Out 2008 will take place on August 5. Established in 1984, National Night Out began as a means to draw attention to the need for residents and law enforcement agencies to work together to maintain safe neighborhoods. Communities across the nation mark the event with festivals, neighborhood walks and block parties.
The Crime Prevention Association of WNY is the coordinating sponsor of the annual National Night Out activities in Buffalo and Western New York.
Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 34 million people participated in National Night Out 2007.
