Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced that he deadline for receipt of the Department of Homeland Security Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Services (SAFER) Grant applications will be 5:00 p.m. on June 27, 2008. SAFER grants are aimed at increasing the number of firefighters and enhancing their ability to ensure that their communities have adequate protection from fire and fire related hazards. This year Congress appropriated $190 million for the SAFER program.
“I encourage local companies to apply for this federal grant to help fill the need for outreach and recruitment of the next generation of first responders,” said Higgins.
The Program Guidance document for FY2008 SAFTER grants is available on the Department of Homeland Security website for the Assistance to Firefighters program at www.firegrantsupport.com.
