In recognition of the upcoming Flag Day Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) would like to remind residents that his office is pleased to assist those requesting American flags flown over the United States Capitol Building.
“Although flag celebrations date as far back as 1885, it was not until 1949, that President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day,” said Congressman Higgins. “Now, on Flag Day and everyday we are proud to recognize this symbol of our unity as a nation and the great freedom it represents.”
With sufficient notice, flags can be flown over the Capitol on a specific date, including weekends and holidays and can be dedicated to a person, organization or event of your choice. Each flag is individually boxed and includes a certificate of dedication.
There are some nominal fees associated with flying a flag over the Capitol, and the price varies according to the size and material of the flag you request.
To download a flag request form go to Congressman Higgins’ website at http://higgins.house.gov/constituentservices.asp and click on the “flags” link.
