Washington, DC—Today Congressman Brian Higgins welcomed five Canisius students to his Washington, DC office.  The students attended a hearing on global warming, attended the speech of King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at a Joint Session of Congress, went on a tour of the Capitol, shadowed Higgins’ staff members, and met with Higgins.

“It is always great to meet student leaders.  The students of Canisius College have made Western New York proud and will undoubtedly be leaders in their Western New York communities down the road.  It was an honor to talk to them today, and let them see government in action,” said Higgins.

The Canisius College students who visited with Higgins came as part of Canisius College Professor Dr. Michael Haselswerdt’s Congress and the Legislative Process course. The students included Political Science Majors Aaron Bakewell of Lockport, Brent Garner of Angola, Michael Kochczynski of Buffalo, Christopher LaFever of Buffalo, and Eric Schrembs of Tonawanda.  Kochczynski said of the experience, “The trip was an amazing and worthwhile opportunity.  As a student who has recently moved to Western New York, it was great to meet with Congressman Higgins and be hosted by an incredible staff.  From the hearing on global warming to the tour of the Capitol, this day will be one I remember for a long time.”
