Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced that Forks Fire District No. 3 has been awarded $17,000 in federal funding through the United States Department of Homeland Security Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program.
“This funding is specifically targeted for fire agencies that have identified a need and plan for recruiting new firefighters,” said Congressman Higgins. “We owe a debt of gratitude to the selfless men and women who sacrifice their time and lives to protect the life and safety of neighbors.”
Established in 1911, Forks Fire District No. 3 has a main hall on Broadway in the Town of Cheektowaga with a sub-station on the corner of Nagel Drive and South Creek.
In fiscal year 2006, Congress authorized approximately $103 million in federal aid available for competitive grants for fire departments and volunteer interest groups interested in expanding the number of firefighters available to more effectively protect the heath and safety of the public with respect to fire and all other hazards.
