Higgins Applauds NFTA for Decisive and Swift Action in Making Transfer Reality
Washington, DC—Today, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority’s (NFTA) Board of Commissioners passed a resolution to authorize the commencement of discussions with the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) concerning the potential transfer of ownership and control of the NFTA’s Outer Harbor property.
“I commend the NFTA for their swift and decisive action today to make the transfer of ownership of its Outer Harbor property happen expeditiously,” said Congressman Higgins. “The NFTA wants the development of the Outer Harbor to be successful, and recognizes that the locally controlled ECHDC is best suited for rebuilding the Lake Erie shoreline.”
Earlier this week, Congressman Higgins announced the brokering of a deal between NFTA and ECHDC to transfer 130 acres of land controlled by the state Authority to the local Corporation. The suggested deadline for the transfer is February 1, 2007.
