Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced he has joined the Congressional Poland Caucus.
“Western New York has a strong and proud community rich with Polish immigrants and their decedents,” said Congressman Higgins. “I am pleased to join my colleagues in Congress who have a similar interest in advancing bi-national cooperation between our two great nations.”
Representatives Christopher H. Smith (NJ-4) and Daniel Lipinski (IL-3) serve as co-chairs for the Congressional Poland Caucus whose principle purpose is to deepen political, economic, cultural and inter-parliamentary relations between the United States and Poland.
In the House of Representatives Congressman Higgins has been actively involved in Polish-American issues including: support for granting posthumous US citizenship to General Casimir Pulaski, leading remarks on the House floor memorializing the late Pope John Paul II, and co-sponsoring legislation to include Poland in the visa waiver program.
Over 106,000 residents in Congressman Higgins’ district and more than 9 million Americans nationwide are of Polish ancestry.
