Washington, DC—Today Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) released the following statement on Israel taking defensive action in Lebanon:

 

“The frightening and tragic events in the Middle East this week are deplorable.  Hezbollah’s violation of Israel’s national sovereignty and abduction of Israeli soldiers cannot be allowed to stand.  Israel’s response is a legitimate expression of her right to self defense as a result of unacceptable action by Hezbollah, a US-designated terrorist group.  I implore the Administration to aggressively pursue the full implementation of UN Resolution 1559, to disarm Hezbollah and restore Lebanese security forces at the border.  I pray for the welfare of the captured soldiers and those civilians caught in the midst of this violence on all sides.”
