On Independence Day, Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) presented local World War II veteran, Mr. Russell Brown, with several military service medals including a Bronze Star.
“Thanks to the sacrifices of great soldiers like Mr. Brown this nation is able to celebrate our freedoms,” said Congressman Higgins. “We are grateful for their service and honored to recognize their bravery and commitment.”
Private First Class Brown enlisted in the United States Army on October 7, 1943 and was honorably discharged from service on December 13, 1945.
Mr. Brown, a resident of the Town of Orchard Park, contacted Congressman Higgins’ office and requested assistance with obtaining the medals he was entitled to, which ultimately included: the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the Combat Medical Badge 1st Award and the WWII Honorable Service Lapel Button. The Congressman handed over the medals on July 4th just prior to the commencement of the annual Town of Cheektowaga parade.
