Local Woman Accepts Purple Heart on Behalf Of Her Brother, Who Served In WWII

Sliver Creek, NY – Today, Wednesday, July 6, 2005 Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) presented Chautauqua County resident, Ms. Rose Anger with a Purple Heart Medal of Honor owed to her late brother, Private Salvatore Cuccia for his actions during his World War II service.
 
“The people of this great Country are eternally grateful to those who sacrifice their lives to fight for the security and freedoms we all enjoy each day,” said Congressman Higgins.  “Private Cuccia is a hero in the truest sense of the word and it is my honor to present his family with the long overdue recognition he is entitled to receive.”
 
Born in Silver Creek on October 12, 1918, Salvatore Cuccia enlisted with the United States Army on April 29, 1944 and served as a Private with the 64th Infantry Regiment, 66th Infantry Division during World War II.  On December 24, 1944 Private Cuccia lost his life in the line of duty when the boat he was in came under hostile fire, which led to it sinking in the English Channel.
