Congressman Higgins Joins President Biden During Trip to Ireland

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) is currently in Ireland, joining President Biden, Cabinet leaders, and members of Congress for meetings with Irish leaders. 

Higgins is among several members of the Congressional Friends of Ireland Caucus, who were asked to join the President on the trip. 

The visit coincides with 25th anniversary of the 1998 Good Friday agreement, which provided a blueprint for peace in Northern Ireland after 700 years of armed conflict.  In 2006 during his tenure on the House of Representatives Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations, Congressman Higgins visited Ireland and met with Sinn Fein leaders during a critical time in the peace process.

Thursday, April 13, 2023

In the morning, the President will meet with President Michael Higgins of Ireland and participate in a tree planting ceremony and ringing of the Peace Bell. The meeting, tree planting, and ringing of the Peace Bell at Áras an Uachtaráin, Dublin, Ireland will be covered by the out-of town pool.

Later, the President will meet with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar of Ireland. This meeting at the Farmleigh House, Dublin, Ireland will have an out-of-town pool spray at the top.

After, the President will attend a youth Gaelic sports demonstration. This event at the Farmleigh House, Dublin, Ireland will be covered by the out-of-town pool.

In the afternoon, the President will address the Houses of the Oireachtas. These remarks at the Leinster House, Dublin, Ireland will be covered by the out-of-town pool.

In the evening, the President will attend a Banquet Dinner. This dinner at Dublin Castle, Dublin, Ireland will be covered by the out-of-town pool.
