Higgins Presses for Answers at Ways & Means Hearing on Social Security Backlogs

Today, Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) participated in a Ways & Means subcommittee hearing focused on Social Security Administration’s (SSA) large backlog in disability claims. The Subcommittee examined the impact of the backlog on applicants with severe disabilities and SSA’s plans for eliminating the backlog, including how the agency intends to use the additional funding that Congress has provided for the current fiscal year.

Higgins Calls for End to Power Authority Abuses

In letters to the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Governor Paterson, Congressman Brian Higgins is condemning the recent sweep of $306 million in NYPA funds to the State's general fund which he points out “took more resources out of Western New York in one day then the Niagara Power Project's relicensing settlement will invest here in fifty years.” In addition the Congressman is calling NYPA’s latest move to increase rates to customers unconscionable.
