Statement by Congressman Brian Higgins on the 116th Congress

Jan 3, 2019
Press Release

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) released the following statement upon the start of the 116th Congress and in response to community gatherings celebrating this new beginning:

“It is a true honor to be sworn in to the 116th Congress today.  There is no greater privilege than to represent the community I love in our Nation’s Capitol.  Article 1 of the Constitution affords the House of Representatives with great power and duties. The new Democratic House will provide checks and balances with the Executive Branch that have been missing in Congress the past two years.  We look forward to getting to work.

“Today in Buffalo, New York, and in rallies in communities across the country, citizens celebrated the new House of Representatives.  We join Western New York residents eager for progress and accountability in the new Congress.   With the new Democratic House of Representatives we hope to cut through the chaos and return focus to the issues that matter, many of which were raised during the rally today, including: affordable health care, the environment, voting rights, infrastructure investment, and oversight.  I’ve have had the opportunity to previously meet with many of the local residents voicing their concerns, we welcome them into our office today and look forward continuing an open dialog on the issues important to the people of Western New York.”
