Higgins Announces House Approval of Budget Resolution, Advancing Effort to Provide Urgently Needed COVID Relief
Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced approval in the House of Representatives of the 2021 Budget Resolution, the first step in passing President Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
Higgins, a member of the House Budget Committee, spoke in favor of the measure on the House Floor, saying in part, “The pandemic has taken much from us, but it has also shown us the best of our country – Americans helping one another through acts of charity and kindness; health workers going nonstop to treat, test, trace, and vaccinate; teachers, firefighters, police, sanitation workers serving the public at great risk to their own health. Vaccines are being distributed and are being administered. Hope is in sight. But many Americans are still in peril, and Congress must act. President Biden’s American Rescue Plan is the bold initiative which meets this critical moment.”

Approval of the Budget Resolution by both Chambers of Congress provides a framework for the House and Senate to start drafting a package that addresses the urgent needs of Americans struggling under the pandemic. The House Budget Committee and the Ways and Means Committee, on which Congressman Higgins serves, will play an active role in developing the package during hearings next week.
Higgins previously welcomed President Biden’s quick action proposing a plan for COVID relief and encouraged restaurant relief be added to the final package. The need is great. In January the US saw the most deaths due to COVID since the pandemic began.
