Higgins Announces Deadline Extension for Federal Fire Grants

Apr 24, 2012
Press Release

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the Department of Homeland Security is extending the application deadline for grants through the Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Program to Friday, May 4.

“Due to a change in the question section, the Department of Homeland Security is giving applicants extra time to complete provide required information,” said Congressman Higgins, a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security.  “I encourage those who haven’t applied already to take this opportunity to do so and those who have to update their applications with the additional information being requested.”

The original deadline for the grant program was April 27.  An applicant tutorial which provides grant information and details outlining the process for preparation and submittal of competitive applications is available at www.fema.gov/firegrants. Applicants with questions regarding the grants can contact the help desk between 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday at 1-866-274-0960 or firegrants@dhs.gov. All applications are submitted to DHS and go through a non-partisan, merit based review ranked by factors established by a panel of service professionals.

Fire Prevention and Safety grants are intended to help local organizations address fire prevention and safety issues with the primary goal of reaching high-risk target groups including children, seniors and firefighters.
