Congressman Higgins Hosting Grant Workshops for Local Firefighters
Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) welcomed local firefighters to the first of two workshops for Departments interested in applying for federal fire grant funding through the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
At the workshop, participants are invited to learn first-hand from a DHS Fire Grant Specialist how to put together a qualifying application. All applications are then submitted to DHS and go through a non-partisan, merit based review ranked by factors established by a panel of fire service professionals.
The Chautauqua County workshop was held on Monday at SUNY Fredonia. A second workshop will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday, June 28th at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Church Hall at 200 Como Park Boulevard in Cheektowaga.
Over the last 6 years fire companies in Congressman Higgins’ district have received nearly $14.7 million, including over 50 awards totaling more than $3.5 million to stations in Chautauqua County and approximately 100 awards adding up to more than $11.1 million for departments in Erie County.
