As the United States prepares to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) is deeply concerned that the Environmental Protection Agency’s lax policies are a threat to the incredible progress made to improve Western New York’s air and water quality.

On March 26, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a memo reporting it is ceasing all enforcement actions during the coronavirus pandemic.  This is just the latest in nearly 100 environmental rule rollbacks by the current Administration.

I recently supported the CARES Act, which included nearly $350 billion in financial assistance called the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). This program acts as a bridge for small businesses that retain employees and pay employees. 

The problem: the program has since run out of money. Thus far, nearly 1.7 million loans worth nearly $349 billion have been processed by nearly 5,000 lenders nationwide. It needs to be reauthorized and funded by another act of Congress and I am supporting efforts to improve and replenish the program.
