Shelter House Building in Cazenovia Park Renamed “Robert J. Williams Shelter House” After Late Police Officer and Longtime Director of the Buffalo Police Athletic League

BUFFALO, NY – On Wednesday, July 11th, South District Councilmember Christopher P. Scanlon and the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy hosted a sign unveiling to mark the renaming of the recently renovated shelter house in Cazenovia Park after the late Robert “Bob” Williams.

Rep. Higgins Speaks in Support of Workers and Retirees in Multiemployer Pension Plans

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) spoke from the floor of the House of Representatives to advocate for passage of H.R.4444, commonly known as the Butch Lewis Act. In his remarks, Congressman Higgins iterated that 1.3 million Americans participate in 114 multiemployer pension plans that are being underfunded and in danger of becoming insolvent.

“Sheriff Tom Higgins was a dear friend of mine and of this community.  He leaves behind an exceptional legacy of service as the most accomplished law enforcement leader of his generation.  Sheriff Higgins was a community protector and an American patriot.  He served with honor in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and came home to begin a more than 40-year distinguished career in law enforcement, first in the Buffalo Police Department and then in the Erie County Sheriff’s Department.  In retirement he continued his involvement in neighborhood activities, was a great family

Higgins Offers Budget Amendment Supporting A Robust Investment in Infrastructure

 

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26), a member of the House of Representatives Budget Committee, offered an amendment to the GOP 2019 Budget proposal that would allow for $1 trillion for investments in America’s infrastructure. 

The Republican 2019 budget proposes to cut transportation spending by $317 billion over the next 10 years.  Under the plan total spending on transportation programs would decrease from $92 billion in 2019 to just $77 billion in 2025. 

Higgins Offers Amendment to Advance Medicare At 50

 

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, offered an amendment today at a Ways and Means hearing that would commission a Health and Human Services Department (HHS) study on a Medicare Buy-In option for Americans aged 50-64. The amendment would direct the Secretary of HHS to submit a report to Congress detailing the agency’s authority to expand Medicare and the impact it would have on affordability, premiums, and out of pocket costs.
