Congressman Higgins Announces November Congress on Your Corner Schedule

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced the Congress on Your Corner schedule for the month of November. Through the program, staff from Congressman Higgins’ office are available at satellite sites throughout the district to better serve the needs of constituents. 

 

The November schedule includes a special outreach event for veterans during which Congressman Higgins will present those who served during the Vietnam War period with commemorative pins.  Below is a complete listing of November Congress on Your Corner events:

 

Friday, November 2

Federal Grant to WEDI to Boost Healthy Eating at West Side Bazaar

A $375,000 federal grant received by the Westminster Economic Development Initiative, Inc. (WEDI) will help increase healthy food choices and strengthen the local food network by expanding and enhancing programs at the West Side Bazaar.

The effort will strengthen connections with local farmers, provide healthy cooking classes, and boost environmentally sustainable practices at the Bazaar.

 

Congressman Higgins Presents Bronze Star to Local Veteran & Honors Wounded Warriors with Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin

During a gathering of Western New York Military Order of the Purple Heart members, Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) honored wounded veterans who served during the Vietnam War including a special presentation of a Bronze Star and other medals to Chapter 187 Chaplain Robert Segool. 

 

Congressman Higgins Presents Purple Heart to Family of WWI Veteran Walter Rydzewski for Battle Injuries Received 100 Years Ago

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) was joined by New York State Assemblymember Monica Wallace, Depew Village Trustee Audrey Hamernick and local veterans, including Depew American Legion Post 1528 and Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 187, to present the family of Private Walter Rydzewski with the Purple Heart and other medals earned 100 years ago, during World War I.

“After years of bad actions by Tonawanda Coke, the community can finally breathe easier. 

“Again and again Tonawanda Coke proved themselves to be a bad corporate citizen, endangering the lives and health of its employees and neighbors.  Still again and again residents stood up and fought back, demanding better for our community.  Tonawanda Coke thought residents would tire or go away but instead their voices got louder and their argument got stronger. 

Erie County's Domestic Violence High-Risk Team Receives $900,000 in Federal Funding to Continue and Expand its Mission to Protect Survivors

In observance of domestic violence awareness month, Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn, Congressman Brian Higgins and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announce that Erie County has received $900,000 in federal funding to expand its Domestic Violence High-Risk Team.

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) and representatives from the office of U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand are hosting Service Academy Night 2018, an opportunity for high school students, families, school administrators and counselors to learn more about service academy institutions, programs and the application process.
