World War II Veteran, Whose Military Medals Were Stolen, Gets His Wish for A New Set of Medals Before Christmas

World War II veteran Andrew J. Dodges reached out to Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) in late November with a Christmas wish: to receive a new set of the military service medals he earned while serving in the United States Army.  Corporal Dodges’ medals, including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart, were stolen from his home. 

Higgins Announces House Approval of Criminal Justice Reform Package

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced bipartisan adoption by the House of Representatives of the “First Step Act” (S. 756).  The bill provides a comprehensive package of reforms to federal sentencing guidelines and the federal prison system. 

“This represents a necessary first step in addressing outdated and inequitable policies, reducing recidivism among inmates, and undoing a broken system that has led to mass incarceration,” said Congressman Higgins. 

Congressman Higgins Announces House Passage of Critical Alzheimer’s Research Bill

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced the passage of S.2076, the BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act, in the House of Representatives on Wednesday by a vote of 361-3. Higgins is a Cosponsor of the House version of the bill. The BOLD Act had previously passed the Senate by voice vote on December 12th. It now awaits the President’s signature.

 

As the Nation Marks the 6th Anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting, Higgins Calls for Congress to Act on Gun Safety

December 14, 2018 marks the sixth anniversary of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. As the nation remembers the tragedy, Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) is calling for Congress to save lives and act on common sense gun safety legislation.
